Teen Behind-the-Wheel Class Information
Behind-the-Wheel is a mandatory 14 periods of in-car instruction. The class is divided into 7 days, and each day is 50 minutes of driving and 50 minutes of observing another student. The state requires observation periods. You cannot take this class independently.
The road test is administered by the instructor during the seventh and final driving period. The road test given by L & S Driving School, Inc is the same as the road test given by the DMV, it is not easier. You will not be passed automatically because you paid money for the program. The same testing rules apply to you when taking the road test with the school as they would if administered by the DMV.
The course fee is $350
Student Requirements
All teens must:
- Be under the age of 18. You must be at least 16 years and 3 months old to receive a temporary license.
- Have a Virginia learner's permit. The permit must be held for 9 months from the issue date to receive a temporary license.
- Have a Virginia Driver Education Course certificate. If completed after July 1, 2022, you must also have proof of completion for the 90-Minute Parent/Teen Presentation. Senate Bill 78
- Have 45 hours of guided driving practice with at least 15 of those hours after sunset. 45-Hour Parent/Teen Driving Guide
- Upon completion, have a parent/guardian sign their behind-the-wheel documents and licensing paperwork.
