Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at LandSdrivingschool@gmail.com  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. The school and all of our courses are approved and licensed by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

We service areas in Suffolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach.

Yes, all new drivers must obtain a learner's permit before they are eligible for a driver's license. You must have a learner's permit or a driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Course fees can be paid with a card online or with cash, money order, or square swipe in-person.

If you are an approved homeschooler, driver education can be taught at home. The student must currently be enrolled in a home-schooled program approved by your school division superintendent.

Yes, the Virginia DMV and Department of Education require license applicants under the age of 18 to complete 45 hours of guided driving practice with at least 15 of those hours being after sunset.

Yes. However, it is only available by taking the behind-the-wheel course.

No, a transcript will not be accepted. You must contact the high school or driving school you attended for driver education and ask for a new certificate. Or take the course again.

The Virginia DMV uses a point system to rate drivers. You receive demerit points for unsafe driving and safe driving points for good driving.

Demerit points are assigned when you are convicted of a traffic violation. The demerit points associated with a conviction remain valid for two years from the date you commit the offense. Different violations carry different point assignments, depending on the seriousness of the offense.

Drivers who are DMV directed or who have volunteered for the Driver Improvement Course may receive 5 points upon completion. The maximum number of positive points you can have on your driving record is five. You may take the course for points every 24 months.

Yes, but only if you are taking both classes at the same school.

If you are taking driver education at high school or another driving school, then you cannot start the behind-the-wheel course until you have completed the course and received your certificate of completion.

Parents are not permitted to sit in the car.

  1. The student is often nervous and anxious in the presence of a parent, and that is not a good environment for a student to learn how to drive or for the instructor to teach driving skills.
  2. The behind-the-wheel course does not have enough seating for a parent. Additionally, it is not allowed by the DMV.

Online Submission

The fastest and easiest way to submit the waiver is to submit it online. You can upload your documents electronically by visiting www.dmvNOW.com/adultwaiver. Uploads must be legible images of the original documents.

In Person Submission

You can make an appointment to visit a DMV Customer Service Center by visiting www.dmvNOW.com/appt. Walk-in service is also available.

  • This method is the only one that results in a temporary driver's license which allows you to drive until your official driver's license arrives in the mail.
