Online Driver Education Course

About the Online Driver Education Course

The online driver education course is a minimum of 30 hours (36 fifty-minute periods) and includes components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, handicapped parking, fuel-efficient driving practices, motorcycle awareness, and organ and tissue donation awareness as required by law.

The course is available to teens and adults.

The course fee is $150.

The fee must be paid before you gain access to the course website.

Student Eligibility

To benefit from the course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable with using a computer.

You must be at least 15 years and 6 months to take this online course.

The online driver education course and the final test must be completed through a DMV-licensed online driver education school. Home-schooled students are exempt from this requirement.

90-Minute Parent/Teen Presentation

Effective July 1, 2022:

As a result of SB 78, all students in Virginia must complete the Parent/Teen component as part of the driver education course. Students outside Planning District 8 may take the online class, and parent or guardian participation is encouraged but not required.

A student who is (1) at least 18 years of age, (2) an emancipated minor, or (3) an unaccompanied minor not in the physical custody of his parent or guardian is exempt from this requirement.

The link to the 90-minute parent/teen component will be provided to students before the final exam.

Instructions for Taking the Online Course

Register for Online Driver Education Today!

To begin, click the button below to pay the course fee and you will be redirected to the curriculum website. Click the button on the left-hand side of the page that says "Click Here to Register!".

Select your course.
Fill out the registration form.
Review the information and click the Register button.
The list of sections will appear. Click on the "start course" button to begin learning!
After completing each chapter of the program you will take a quiz. After passing each quiz you will continue to the next chapter.
Follow the online instructions to take the Final Exam. Upon making payment and passing the final exam, you can then continue with the behind-the-wheel portion of the course or our instructor will issue your certificate to you if you request a transfer.

Please note that you can exit and re-enter the program at your own convenience. You will receive the course link in your welcome email; you can find the email in your inbox or spam/junk folder. Our student progress monitoring feature allows you to pick up exactly where you left off.
