Adult Behind-the-Wheel Class Information
Behind-the-Wheel is a mandatory 14 periods of in-car instruction. The class is divided into 7 days, and each day is 50 minutes of driving and 50 minutes of observing another student. The state requires observation periods. You cannot take this class independently.
The road test is administered by the instructor during the seventh and final driving period. The road test given by L & S Driving School, Inc is the same as the road test given by the DMV, it is not easier. You will not be passed automatically because you paid money for the program. The same testing rules apply to you when taking the road test with the school as they would if administered by the DMV.
Upon successful completion of the road test, you will receive an Adult Waiver that must be submitted to DMV to have your driver's license issued.
The course fee is $400
Student Requirements
All adults must:
- Be age 18 and older.
- Have a Virginia learner's permit.
- Have a Virginia Driver Education Course certificate. Never took the course? No problem! Click here to register for our online driver's education course.
- Have completed multiple hours of guided driving practice with a licensed adult. This course is not for new or learning drivers! At least 10 to 12 hours is preferred.
Find Out If You Meet the State Qualifications
While the DMV may tell customers about the Adult Waiver after they receive their learner's permit, they do not know whether or not you qualify for the program without the correct information.
You DO NOT qualify for an adult waiver if:
- You have ever held a driver's license in any state, U.S. territory, or foreign country.
- You have ever had your driving privilege prohibited, suspended, or revoked by any court or the DMV.
- You have attempted the road test at the DMV three (3) times.
