Driver Education Course
About the Driver Education Course
The driver education course is 36 fifty-minute periods of instruction.
- The course is 9 days. Each day is 3 hours and 20 minutes (4 fifty-minute periods).
- This course is available to teens and adults. Teenagers must be at least 15 years and 6 months old.
- You must have transportation to and from our office for each class period.
The course fee is $400
Course Curriculum
The course includes components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, handicapped parking, fuel-efficient driving practices, motorcycle awareness, and organ and tissue donation awareness as required by law.
Students will receive a syllabus detailing the subjects covered in class, the grading requirements, and the attendance policy. Students must complete all sessions before taking the final exam.
90-Minute Parent/Teen Component
Effective July 1, 2022:
As a result of SB 78, all students in Virginia must complete the Parent/Teen component as part of the driver education course. Students outside Planning District 8 may take the online class, and parent or guardian participation is encouraged but not required.
- A student who is (1) at least 18 years of age, (2) an emancipated minor, or (3) an unaccompanied minor not in the physical custody of his parent or guardian is exempt from this requirement.
The link to the 90-minute parent/teen component will be provided to students before the final exam.
